Opportunity Overview
As a critical leader within Teradyne’s product test organization, this role is responsible for managing and leading product engineering activities supporting test & measurement product lines across wireless, high-speed I/O, and optical test technologies. This is a hands-on technical leadership role spanning pre-ramp, ramp, and post-ramp sustaining operations in factory and field environments. The manager leads product engineering teams while remaining deeply engaged in complex hardware debug, yield improvement, reliability enhancement, and manufacturing optimization. This role partners closely with Test Software, Firmware, Quality, NPI, R&D, Field Services, Applications Engineering, and Contract Manufacturing teams.
- Manage people, processes, and technical execution, including ownership of complex problem resolution, cross-functional escalation management, and clear summary and executive-level reporting of product health, manufacturing status, and technical risk.
- Lead and mentor product, hardware, and test engineers supporting RF, optical, photonics, and high-speed digital products across multiple platforms.
- Provide expert-level technical leadership for troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of analog, digital, RF, mm-wave, high-speed optical, and photonics failures down to module and component level.
- Own identification of systemic hardware failure patterns; define data-driven corrective actions using yield analytics, SPC, and statistical data analysis tools.
- Oversee RF and optical measurements including P1dB compression, phase noise, gain, spurious emissions, S-parameters, BER, eye diagrams, jitter, optical power, wavelength, extinction ratio, and related photonics metrics.
- Ensure robust execution of RF, optical, and precision photonics characterization in manufacturing and NPI environments.
- Drive DFM, DFT, and DFA improvements by influencing board-level, module-level, and system-level design decisions.
- Maintain ownership of overall hardware yield enhancement, reliability growth, escape prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure products meet manufacturability, functional specification, quality, reliability, regulatory, and cost requirements prior to shipment.
- Establish, review, and maintain production processes, assembly documentation, test coverage, and manufacturing procedures to meet outgoing quality standards.
- Lead execution and approval of hardware deviations, ECRs, and ECOs across various manufacturing phases.
- Optimize test architecture, test parameters, test limits, test time, touch time, and station utilization to reduce manufacturing cost.
- Act as the primary technical interface between internal engineering teams and Contract Manufacturers, leading escalation management and conflict resolution.
- Define debug strategies and train engineers and technicians to reduce debug cycle time and re-test rates.
- Lead component qualification, vendor technical engagement, and supplier characterization activities.
- Provide technical governance for PCBA schematics, layout reviews, fabrication drawings, and electronic BOMs.
- Ensure team proficiency in RF, high-speed digital, and optical lab equipment including Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Phase Noise Analyzers, Signal Analyzers, PXIe systems, tunable lasers, BERTs, DSOs, and TDRs.
