We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results.

Opportunity Overview

As a senior member of Teradyne's Product Test Group (PTG), you will perform a dual role by supporting factory production and leading customer-site installation, bring-up, commissioning, and support for high-speed digital and optical test products. The role combines electrical and product engineering/manufacturing expertise with hands-on field execution, complex system troubleshooting, and daily customer engagement. You will ensure installations meet product specifications, acceptance criteria, schedules, and customer requirements while coordinating issue resolution across customers and global engineering, manufacturing, quality, and service teams.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Lead on-site installation, integration, bring-up, commissioning, qualification, and customer acceptance of  high-speed digital and optical test systems.
  • Confirm site readiness, utilities, networking, cabling, tooling, software and firmware revisions, calibration, spares, documentation, and acceptance plans before deployment.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of product architecture, electrical and optical signal paths, embedded controls, system configurations, software and firmware dependencies, and customer applications.
  • Configure and verify end-to-end system operation against product specifications, installation procedures, customer use cases, and agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, product, integration, software, firmware, calibration, signal-integrity, optical-connectivity, thermal, and configuration issues to the appropriate subsystem or component level.
  • Perform and interpret high-speed digital and optical measurements, including BER, eye diagrams, jitter, timing margin, optical power, wavelength, insertion loss, and extinction ratio.
  • Use BERTs, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, TDR  instruments, optical power meters, attenuators, optical spectrum analyzers, and standard electrical test equipment.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with the customer, clearly communicating status, risks, dependencies, containment, recovery plans, and closure evidence.
  • Translate customer observations into clear problem statements, test plans, debug logs, and actionable inputs for internal engineering teams.
  • Drive rapid containment, cross-functional root cause analysis, permanent corrective action, and effectiveness verification for site issues.
  • Maintain installation records, configuration baselines, test data, issue trackers, acceptance results, change history, and customer-facing technical summaries.
  • Improve installation procedures, checklists, diagnostics, serviceability, and deployment quality through pre-installation reviews and lessons learned.
  • Train customer and internal personnel on safe operation, configuration, maintenance, and first-level troubleshooting.
  • Assess rack integration, fixture alignment, cable routing, airflow, fastening, connector access, and other basic mechanical interfaces; implement only safe and approved adjustments.
  • Support NPI and early deployments by identifying product reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, and design-for-installation improvements.
  • Coordinate with R&D, Product Engineering, Applications, Software, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Field Service, and vendors to resolve installation blockers.
  • Manage multiple customer-site priorities while protecting safety, quality, schedule, customer commitments, and confidential information.
  • Travel extensively to domestic and international customer, company, contract-manufacturer, and supplier locations

Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Photonics, or an equivalent discipline is required; a master's degree is a plus.
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in field installation, product, sustaining, systems, applications, hardware engineering, or technical support for complex test and measurement products.
  • Proven ability to independently install, integrate, commission, troubleshoot, and obtain customer acceptance for complex systems.
  • Deep knowledge of high-speed digital and optical technologies, including signal integrity, serial data links, clocking, jitter, BER, eye analysis, optical power budgets, and optical interfaces.
  • Ability to read schematics, block diagrams, interconnect and cable drawings, interface-control documents, assembly drawings, bills of material, and product specifications.
  • Strong board- and system-level troubleshooting skills using structured fault isolation, measurement correlation, controlled experiments, and root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with BERTs, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, TDR equipment, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, attenuators, and general electrical instruments.
  • Working knowledge of software-controlled instrumentation, networking, firmware loading, configuration management, diagnostic tools, and log analysis.
  • Product or circuit design experience is preferred to support design-intent understanding and field issue resolution; this is primarily an installation and product-support role.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with rack-mounted equipment, fixtures, brackets, alignment, fasteners, cable management, airflow, and mechanical interfaces is preferred.
  • Experience with NPI, early customer deployments, production ramp, and structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5-Why, FMEA, and fault-tree analysis are preferred.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication, technical writing, professional judgment, escalation management, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently under customer-site pressure, coordinate global teams, and drive multiple issues to verified closure.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including international travel and extended assignments, and work flexible hours to meet installation milestones.

We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
