As a Firmware Automation Specialist you will join a rapidly growing team of skilled embedded software developers based at our headquarters in Odense, Denmark. 
  

The team is responsible for developing microcontroller software for various devices in robots, within areas of power management, sensor interfacing, external IO interfacing, motor controllers, safety systems and others. Supporting tools for building, testing, and deploying firmware are also responsibilities of the Team, giving the team end-to-end ownership of the full process.

Overall, your role as a Firmware Automation Specialist involves developing and maintaining scripts, programs, and frameworks that automatically perform various tests and checks on firmware to ensure its functionality, stability, and compatibility. This includes tasks like simulating different scenarios, stress testing, compatibility testing with different hardware configurations, and more. 

You will be responsible for the embedded software team’s hardware test platform, which is a key stone in ensuring software quality across our ever-increasing number of product variants. 

You will be closely collaborating with members of the team as well as other parts of the organization. 

 

Your responsibilities and tasks are:
 

  • Design and implement tests in Python and PyTest with the purpose of performing tests on actual embedded hardware 

  • Expand the physical hardware test platform by rigging up and installing new equipment 

  • Develop code on the test subject itself to facilitate the test when needed 

  • Maintain and develop the integration of the test platform in our build pipeline and tools 

  • Profiling of tests, generating trends for areas of interest 

  • Tooling to assist embedded developers 

  • Collaborate with colleagues in other departments in cross-functional projects and initiatives 

  • Participating in architectural discussions in the team 

  • Helping or driving a DevOps culture where tooling and automation is in focus, to ensure scalability 

  • Challenging our methods, so we constantly ensure that we meet tomorrow’s requirements and possibilities 
     

The successful candidate

At MiR, we come in all shapes and sizes, and we cheer each other on. However, we do expect that you bring the following: 
  

  • Experience from a similar position, working with development and integration of (automated) software test systems 

  • Proven experience with Python and PyTest 

  • Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines 

  • Experience with git or similar distributed version control system 

  • Practical skills and some degree of electronics knowledge 

  • Strong focus on quality, Unit Testing and debugging skills 

  

If you also possess one or more of the skills below, you will have a head start at this position: 
  

  • DRONE:IO, Bazel and Buildbarn 

  • Experience with C/C++ development 

  • VS Code integrations 

  • Debugging with J-Link 

  • Knowledge of CAN bus and CANopen protocol 

  

Further, you will be expected to, in collaboration with the team, sketch the roadmap and drive architectural improvements of our test platform, ensuring continuous scalability, confidence and quality. You will also participate in relevant cross-team / cross-organization discussions and workgroups with the goal of aligning the overall test strategies in R&D. 

Good communication skills and a meticulous attitude towards testing are required. 

As a person, you are open-minded and pragmatic with an innate ability to continuously learn and develop your skills.
