Opportunity Overview

The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the company’s import and export activities comply with all applicable international trade laws and regulations. This role supports global operations by managing customs compliance, import duties, export controls, sanctions, and trade documentation while minimizing regulatory and financial risk.

Import & Export Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international trade regulations, including Customs regulations, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and applicable sanctions programs
  • Classify products according to Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN)
  • Determine country of origin, valuation, and duty applicability
  • Review and approve import/export transactions and support documentation

Regulatory Management

  • Monitor changes in global trade laws and assess impact to business operations
  • Maintain compliance with government agencies such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
  • Support audits, internal reviews, and government inquiries

Policies & Procedures

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce trade compliance policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams (Supply Chain, Logistics, Sales, Finance) on compliance requirements
  • Ensure recordkeeping requirements are met and maintained accurately

Risk Management & Process Improvement

  • Identify compliance risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Support voluntary disclosures when required
  • Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and legal counsel
  • Improve processes to drive efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory alignment

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international Trade, Supply Chain, Business, or related field  OR equivalent experience
  • English proficient.
  • 3+ years of experience in:
  • Trade compliance, import/export, or customs operations
  • HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and export controls
  • Trade compliance systems (ERP, denied party screening tools)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

 

 

Preferred requirements:

  • Customs Broker License or professional certifications (e.g., CCS, CUSECO, CTPAT knowledge)
  • Experience supporting audits, disclosures, or regulatory investigations
  • Knowledge of free trade agreements and duty drawbacks
  • Experience working in a global manufacturing or distribution environment
