Opportunity Overview

Commodity Manager

 

A challenging opportunity exists within our Operations team for a professional with focus on supply chain management.


The Senior Commodity Manager will be a key member of the Supply Base Management group with direct responsibility for influencing supplier selection during the development process and ensuring the supply of material and support from the supply base is delivered through all phases of the Teradyne’s product life cycle. This role will lead the supplier selection process, drive supplier related initiatives including large scale cost down projects, lead qualification and on-going assessment of the supply base as well as focus on the strategic approach to commodity and supplier issues. This position will identify, develop, and maintain technical and strategic relationships with key suppliers.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the component and supplier selection process for new products.
  • Provide leadership and coordination in the management of supply base during the new product development process.
  • Drive large scale cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure supply base is aligned with company technology needs. Develop relationships with key vendors and maintain awareness of trends in wafer fabrication, wafer probe, packaging and production test.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate inventory levels throughout the supply chain for ASICs and other Highly Critical IC’s.:
    • Wafer / Die Bank Level
    • Package / Test Level
    • Finished Goods
  • Establish business models, maintain contractual requirements and foster relationships with critical suppliers.
  • Develop and execute negotiation strategies.
  • Manage a portfolio of critical suppliers. 
  • Develop an understanding of critical commodities and the associated market conditions, industry trends, processes, suppliers, cost drivers, etc for definition and documentation of sourcing strategy and establishment of performance goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership and management of suppliers to achieve best in class performance for the following key strategic initiatives:
    • Price/Cost - Assure best cost structure and define cost reduction initiatives and metrics for all phases of the business: design, production, and repair
    • Quality - Drive implementation of established supplier quality-related initiatives that include initial quality and long term MTBF goals for the supplier
    • Agility & Flexibility - Implement supplier managed programs and other functional and company-wide process improvements to assure material availability and manage inventory levels
    • Technology Leadership – In conjunction with Engineering select and develop suppliers that provide technology leadership.
  • Develop relationships with key suppliers at all levels with the goal of delivering best in class performance.
  • Establish goals and performance expectations with supply base. Write and award contracts where applicable to document agreements with suppliers.
  • Work with supply base to establish ability support all aspects of business for Teradyne and Teradyne customer global locations.

Basic Qualifications, Experience, & Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-10 years of sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiations and supplier selection/management
  • Experience in purchase of technical commodities and implementation of best practices
  • Experience with contract negotiation, including technology services and intellectual property.
  • Specific understanding of ASIC development and manufacturing a plus.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Working Knowledge of ERP systems preferred
  • Outstanding Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Travel is required and can vary from 5-15% per year
