Opportunity Overview:
Teradyne is hiring a Division Controller for the Defense & Aerospace division.
The Defense & Aerospace (D&A) Division Controller is the senior finance leader responsible for all financial management, planning, reporting, and internal controls across Teradyne’s Defense & Aerospace business. This role is accountable for driving financial rigor, ensuring GAAP‑compliant reporting, supporting strategic growth initiatives, and partnering closely with division to improve profitability and operational performance.
This position is highly visible and requires an executive‑caliber leader capable of operating in a complex, multi‑product environment with strong requirements for forecasting accuracy, government-related revenue analysis, product vs. services margin insight, and cross‑divisional coordination.
Financial Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Division President and management team, providing data‑driven insights on business performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic choices.
- Guide the division’s financial planning processes including Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Multi‑Year Plan (MTP), quarterly forecasts, and monthly closes.
- Partner with engineering, operations, product management, and sales on revenue and margin forecasts, investment tradeoffs, and customer‑driven program.
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for D&A, including:
- Revenue and margin analytics (hardware, instruments, systems, POC/service revenue)
- Product cost of sales, labor/overhead allocations, warranty reserves
Forecasting, QBRs, and MTP Support
- Lead preparation of all D&A deliverables for QBRs, Pre‑QBRs, management reviews, and Board‑level updates.
Operational Finance & Cost Management
- Work with Operations, Engineering, Product Support, and Field Applications to understand cost drivers and improve operational efficiency.
- Oversee evaluation of engineering spend, productivity, NRE, and headcount planning in collaboration with functional leaders
Government-Related Revenue & Compliance
- Ensure correct accounting and margin treatment for U.S. government and contractor-funded programs.
Internal Controls, Systems & Process Ownership
- Maintain strong financial governance, internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit readiness.
Leadership & Team Development
- Spearhead and develop the D&A Finance team; build a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, mentoring, and succession planning for key finance roles.

- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years progressive finance experience, including leadership roles in manufacturing, defense, aerospace, or advanced technology sectors.
- Deep expertise in financial planning, FP&A, cost accounting, and GAAP reporting.
- Experience supporting a P&L with complex revenue streams (systems, instruments, service/POC).
- Strong command of forecasting accuracy, scenario modeling, and executive‑level storytelling.
- Ability to influence cross-functionally and influence choices in a fast‑paced, high‑complexity environment.
- U.S. government/defense sector accounting familiarity preferred.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $138,400 - $221,400. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
Incentive Plan:
This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
