Opportunity Overview:

Teradyne’s Production Board Test (PBT) group is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support New Product Introduction programs from early design through transfer to high-volume manufacturing.

This Operations-focused role will ensure manufacturing requirements are incorporated throughout the design process and that new products are ready for safe, repeatable, and scalable production. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, suppliers, and global manufacturing partners to support Teradyne’s quick-to-market objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Operations manufacturing engineering lead for assigned PBT NPI programs from concept and prototype builds through production release and transfer to high-volume manufacturing.
• Lead and participate in cross-functional design reviews, providing Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, Design for Test, serviceability, ergonomics, safety, and production-scalability input.
• Identify manufacturing requirements and risks early enough to influence product design and avoid issues during prototype builds and production ramp.
• Develop, release, and maintain manufacturing documentation, including assembly work instructions, test instructions, process specifications, production drawings, process flows, visual aids, and training materials.
• Ensure product documentation is complete, accurate, configuration controlled, and suitable for use at internal and outsourced manufacturing locations.
• Define manufacturing processes, assembly sequences, tooling, fixtures, equipment, inspection points, test interfaces, material flow, and process controls required for repeatable production.
• Lead manufacturing-readiness reviews for prototype, pilot, and pre-production builds, confirming that materials, documentation, tooling, equipment, test capability, staffing, and training are in place.
• Provide hands-on manufacturing support during builds, document lessons learned, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing, assembly, and test issues.
• Use production data such as yield, defects, cycle time, rework, and capacity to identify risks and drive continuous improvement.
• Coordinate the design, validation, documentation, calibration requirements, and HVM handoff of manufacturing tooling and fixtures.
• Develop and execute product transfer plans for high-volume manufacturing partners, including documentation packages, equipment and tooling replication, process qualification, training, capacity, and readiness reviews.
• Lead knowledge transfer to manufacturing partners in the Philippines and Malaysia and confirm that the receiving site can consistently build, inspect, and test the product to requirements.
• Develop and provide training to assemblers, technicians, engineers, and partner-site personnel and verify training effectiveness during pilot and ramp builds.
• Support engineering changes by assessing manufacturing impact, updating documentation, coordinating cut-in plans, and communicating changes to affected manufacturing sites.
• Identify manufacturing, quality, schedule, capacity, and supply risks, communicate impacts clearly, and drive practical mitigation and recovery plans.
• Support capital equipment, capacity, floor-space, and labor planning for NPI and production ramp.
• Ensure compliance with applicable quality, safety, ESD, workmanship, and configuration-control requirements.

• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting complex electro-mechanical or electronic products.
• Experience supporting NPI programs and transferring products from prototype or engineering environments into production.
• Demonstrated experience influencing product design through DFM, DFA, or DFT reviews.
• Experience creating production work instructions, test instructions, process specifications, manufacturing drawings, process flows, and training materials.
• Hands-on experience supporting prototype, pilot, and production-ramp builds.
• Working knowledge of bills of material, engineering drawings, engineering change processes, configuration control, root-cause analysis, corrective action, process validation, and manufacturing risk management.
• Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and test requirements and translate them into practical manufacturing processes.
• Strong problem-solving, project leadership, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively across Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers, and contract manufacturers and drive actions without direct authority.
• Ability to manage multiple NPI priorities, work independently, recognize when issues require escalation, and operate with a high sense of urgency.
• Ability to participate in evening calls with manufacturing partners in the Philippines and Malaysia approximately one to two evenings per week, based on program needs.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% during product ramps and transfers to high-volume manufacturing in Asia.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with printed circuit board assemblies, board-level manufacturing, production test, test fixtures, or automated test equipment.
• Experience transferring products to contract manufacturers or global manufacturing sites.
• Familiarity with IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, ESD controls, and electronics workmanship standards.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.
• Experience with PFMEA, control plans, statistical process control, process capability, Lean manufacturing, and structured problem-solving methods.

Compensation: 

The base salary range for this role is $98,400 - $157,500. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location. 

Incentive Plan: 

This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
