Opportunity Overview
The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:
- Create long term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
- Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.
The Optical Engineer will be involved in the product definition and development of optical test solutions for emerging markets, such as microLED. This role is an integral part of a dynamic, cross-functional team dedicated to developing innovative solutions for emerging markets within semiconductor test. Our team fosters a collaborative culture that encourages contributions across a broad range of disciplines. You’ll be hands-on throughout the project lifecycle and supported by engineers across the organization to help bring your ideas to life.
- Interacting with customers to define requirements for new optical test products.
- Working with engineers from other disciplines to develop innovative products.
- Developing test methods for lab and production verification.
- Design verification of new optical instrumentation in the lab and integrated into optical test cells to verify new products meet their target functionality and specifications.
- Develop and verify instrumentation calibration and test processes to be used by both customers and Teradyne manufacturing.
- Support the fleet of products in the field, which may include root cause & failure analysis, troubleshooting, and implementing new feature requests.

- B.S. degree in Optical Engineering or Physics, M.S. preferred.
- At least 10 years working experience in optical engineering with focus on developing innovative technical solutions.
- Practical experience in design, assembly, and alignment of electro-optical systems.
- Experience working in metrology of display products (OLED, LCD, LED, uLED) and/or viewing lens.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: Display design, characterization, calibration or test; AR/VR design, characterization or test; Common interfaces for optical instruments, such as CCD/CMOS camera, spectrophotometers, colorimeter, etc.; Color science, image processing and machine vision; Experience with software engineering methodologies, processes, and tools.
- Programming skills in Python and/or Matlab.
- Experience with software control of HW instrumentation.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, coupled with a proactive mindset and enthusiasm for exploring emerging technologies, while maintaining a strong focus on delivering engineered solutions within project timelines.
- Ability to own areas of responsibility, be self-motivated and work on your own.
- Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills.
- Experience in semiconductor testing preferred.
We are only considering candidates local to position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $134,800-$215,700. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
