Opportunity Overview
As an Optical Engineer within Teradyne’s Innovation Lab, you will help define and develop next-generation optical test solutions for emerging semiconductor applications, including microLED. You will work hands-on across the full product lifecycle—from concept and requirements through design, validation, and field support—partnering with cross-functional teams to bring new technologies to market.

Lead development of optical systems, including lens specification, selection, and optimization

Translate system requirements into optical specifications (MTF, resolution, distortion, FOV, illumination)

Perform optical modeling and simulation using tools such as Zemax or equivalent

Collaborate cross-functionally to design, validate, and integrate optical test solutions

Partner with vendors to source, qualify, and manufacture optical components

Support product validation, calibration processes, and field troubleshooting
All About You
We’re looking for someone who combines strong optical design expertise with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.

Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field (Master’s preferred)

5+ years of experience in optical system design and development

Strong proficiency with optical design tools (Zemax, Code V, or similar)

Experience designing, aligning, and validating electro-optical systems

Solid understanding of imaging systems, illumination design, and tolerancing

Hands-on lab experience in optical testing and characterization

Experience working with optics vendors and manufacturing processes
Preferred

Experience with display metrology (OLED, LCD, LED, microLED)

Familiarity with semiconductor test environments or instrumentation

Experience with hardware/software integration for optical systems

We are only considering candidates local to the position location and are unable to provide relocation for this position.

Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $111,300 – $178,200. This range is a good faith estimate and will vary based on experience, skills, and location.
Incentive Plan: Eligible for discretionary bonus based on company performance.
