Opportunity Overview
The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:
- Create long term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
- Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.
The Optical Engineering Manager leads a team of optical engineers responsible for the design, development, validation, and support of optical systems and instrumentation. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and team development to deliver innovative optical solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of optical engineers.
- Manage project schedules, priorities, and resource allocation.
- Oversee the design, development, and validation of optical systems, including imaging, illumination, and metrology solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to develop integrated products.
- Work with customers and suppliers to define requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Drive design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering best practices.
- Support product introduction, manufacturing, and field issue resolution.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Qualifications

- BS or MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of optical engineering experience, including hands-on optical design and testing.
- 3+ years of engineering leadership or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of imaging systems, optical instrumentation, lens design, illumination, and optical testing.
- Experience with optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, or similar software.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in semiconductor test, machine vision, or automated inspection systems preferred.

Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $151,800 – $242,800. This range is a good faith estimate and will vary based on experience, skills, and location.
Incentive Plan: Eligible for discretionary bonus based on company performance.
