Opportunity Overview
As a Senior Automation Engineer, Silicon Photonics Test Solutions, you will help develop active optical alignment systems for high-volume manufacturing test of silicon photonics devices, including wafers, optical engines, and co-packaged optics. In this hands-on senior role, you will design and optimize active and passive alignment systems requiring sub-micron precision while meeting high standards for reliability, repeatability, and performance. This position requires a strong technical foundation across robotics, fiber optics, electronics, mechanical systems, software development, and data analysis to ensure accurate and efficient testing processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead system and platform design efforts, partnering with Systems Engineering to define subsystems, establish technical direction, and support product strategy and long-term roadmap development.
- Develop robotic automation systems for optical alignment used in silicon photonics testing, including active and passive alignment solutions requiring sub-micron precision.
- Build control software, algorithms, and automation methods that improve alignment accuracy, repeatability, reliability, and throughput.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define test requirements, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and communicate project scope, schedule, cost, and risk considerations to stakeholders.
- Analyze data to troubleshoot, characterize, and optimize alignment system performance across complex silicon photonics test applications.
- Sustain and improve existing alignment systems to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Ensure test procedures, results, system configurations, and technical decisions are documented clearly and consistently.
- Stay current with advancements in silicon photonics, robotic alignment technologies, test methodologies, and automation algorithms.

- Graduate degree in Physics, Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent advanced experience may be considered.
- 15+ years of experience in robotics, control system design and analysis, automation software, or related algorithm development.
- Strong experience with fiber optic alignment systems, optical test equipment, and optical testing methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to design, troubleshoot, and optimize robotic systems requiring high precision; sub-micron precision experience is highly preferred.
- Experience testing silicon photonics devices, optical engines, wafers, or co-packaged optics is highly preferred.
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to enhance automation, control, or alignment algorithms is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $153,600-$245,900. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
