Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to a variety of machine design and product development initiatives for our next generation System Level Test platforms and enabling technologies. The ideal candidate will create innovative, but also sound technical solutions to medium complexity engineering problems. The ideal candidate will also work across functional boundaries to identify essential requirements, tradeoffs, and key technical risks. This person will work closely with external facing teams such as Product Marketing and Applications to understand customer needs. In parallel, the ideal candidate will work with internal cross-functional product development teams to implement design solutions for risk mitigation, concept selection and high-volume manufacturing.
- Works with minimal guidance and supervision towards predetermined mid and long-term goals
- Synthesizes requirements from multiple stakeholders into discrete engineering and design tradeoffs
- Effectively interacts with other technical and non-technical disciplines to solve problems and build collaborative relationships
- Experience in conceptualizing and communicating system architecture for complex machine designs
- Consistently collaborates with development teams in key areas through efficient communication, technical guidance, tradeoffs, project scheduling, and change management
- Effectively participates with global supply base to arrive at economically viable solutions
- Work cross-functionally to development of electro-mechanical assemblies including cables, PCBAs and mechanical components.
- Develops industrial, automated equipment products based on sound engineering principles that:
- Provide universal, dedicated, and multi-function robots for test head manipulation
- Provide docking systems for precision electro-mechanical test head alignment and clamping
- Create interface standards for production testing with adjacent material handling systems
- Include measures for failsafe operation
- Deliver solutions for the latest generation of advanced System Level testing
- Long-term expectations for this position include:
- Participates and influences the development of long-term technical capability roadmaps to support market changes over time
- Contributes to initiatives throughout the company as a subject matter expert for machine design and customer considerations, challenges, and solutions
- Routinely creates innovative ideas, IP, technical publications, or presentations

- Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of experience in machine design. Experience in developing System Level manufacturing and test equipment is a plus.
- Takes initiative, self-motivated, and drive to design, engineer, analyze and test medium complexity electromechanical systems, subsystems, and parts.
- Ability to quickly conceptualize ideas in CAD environment and communicate those ideas to a broader audience.
- Disciplined and methodical engineering rigor and careful attention to detail
- Communication skills for effective influence with customers, internal teammates, and suppliers worldwide
- Proficiency in fundamentals of machine design: FEA, tolerances, precision alignment, actuators, bearings, mechanical properties of materials, BOMs, drawings, sensors. Experience or familiarity with injection molding is preferred.
- Experience in material selection, manufacturing processes, and mechanical fabrication methods
- High proficiency in Solidworks. Familiarity with PDM, Enterprise and MRP systems.
