Opportunity Overview
Do you love turning complex ideas into clear, simple instructions? Do you want to learn how professional software documentation is planned, written, tested, and published, with experienced writers and engineers to guide you? Ever wonder how Teradyne's customers learn to write, debug, and optimize the test programs that verify every semiconductor device they build? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!
We are looking for an early-career technical writer who is eager to learn the craft on real products. In this role you will write and update documentation topics, procedures, and release notes for the programmers of our Automated Test Equipment (ATE), working from established templates and patterns with detailed guidance and regular review from senior writers. You will work alongside your documentation peers and with developers, engineers, and product managers to understand the product and turn what you learn into accurate, user-friendly help content, using a docs-as-code toolchain and the latest AI-enabled tools. As your knowledge of our products and the people who use them grows, so will the scope of your work.
Responsibilities:
- Write, edit, and update documentation topics, procedures, and release notes for assigned software features, working from existing templates and topic patterns
- Own individual topics or sections within a documentation set maintained by senior writers, and deliver assigned work on schedule
- Gather information from specifications, existing documentation, and subject matter experts (SMEs), coming to interviews with prepared questions and taking accurate notes
- Learn and apply the Teradyne style guide, approved terminology, and documentation process to everything you write
- Author and publish in a docs-as-code pipeline (Markdown/HTML5, Git, pull requests) using the team's established setup, and write well-titled, self-contained topics that serve both readers and AI assistants
- Use AI-enabled tools to help draft and revise content, and check the output for accuracy before submitting it for review
- Run procedures against the product to confirm the steps work as written, and flag mismatches to your mentors
- Share drafts and status updates with the team, and accurately incorporate feedback from editorial and SME reviews
- Build working knowledge of ATE products, the test-development workflow, and the programmers who use them, and stay current on best practices in technical writing
