Opportunity Overview

The Test Cell team works across Teradyne business units to define integrated test cell solutions for some of the semiconductor industry’s fastest-growing markets, including high-performance compute, AI accelerators, silicon photonics, power, Automotive, RF, and networking silicon. These applications place increasing demands on the full production test cell, including extreme power delivery, elevated thermal loads, high pin counts, stringent signal fidelity, large and fragile wafer-level or multi-die packages, and emerging interfaces such as optical. In many cases, the strength of the test cell solution is a critical factor in winning the customer socket.

The Test Cell Field Application Engineer defines customer-ready test cell solutions by understanding device requirements, positioning Teradyne product capabilities, developing solutions with engineering, product teams, and third-party partners. This high-visibility individual contributor role combines technical leadership, customer engagement, roadmap influence, and hands-on execution.

This position works across engineering, sales, field applications, operations, and marketing, as well as with industry partners that supply probers, handlers, manipulators, device interface hardware, probe cards, sockets, and thermal solutions.

The role includes both multi-year strategic planning and near-term customer execution, with opportunities to influence Teradyne’s ATE tester and test cell product roadmaps. The position requires domestic and international travel of approximately 25% or more.

• Work directly with leading semiconductor companies to define test cell solutions that enable advanced chip designs to move into production.
• Develop deep expertise in Teradyne test cell products, applications, and policies.
• Provide expert technical guidance to customers, sales teams, field application engineers, and support staff.
• Ensure relevant technical information is communicated promptly and accurately across sales, marketing, engineering, and test cell teams.
• Build strategic relationships with sales teams and key customer technical decision makers.
• Partner with marketing to define technical differentiation and generate proof points for customer-facing teams.
• Develop, present, and respond to proposals addressing specific customer requirements.
• Coordinate, develop, and deliver product demonstrations that show the value of Teradyne test cell solutions.
• Lead new product introductions at customer sites, including project management, hands-on integration, and training.
• Support emerging markets by serving as a liaison between customers and Teradyne engineering, marketing, and operations teams.
• Monitor and present updates on competitors, industry trends, product and service developments, legacy technologies, emerging technologies, and product-line roadmaps.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Five or more years of experience in the semiconductor capital equipment, ATE, or test cell products industry.
• Solid electromechanical, machine design, or applications development skills.
• Experience with analog, mixed-signal, complex SoC, RF, or memory testing.
• Strong understanding and operational knowledge of semiconductor material handling equipment, including wafer probers and final test handlers.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor device packaging and contact technologies, including probe cards and contactors.
• Fundamental understanding Active Thermal Control (ATC) or Optical Test Technologies is desired.
• Experience with CAD software SolidWorks is a plus.

Compensation: 
The base salary range for this role is $126,800 to 202,800. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.  

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
