Organization & Role

The Nextest Business Unit of Teradyne is looking for a mid-level Engineering Project Manager.  Nextest is the market leader in Semiconductor Memory Test.  The memory in your computer, cell phone, or tablet was likely tested using our equipment.  These multi-million-dollar systems involve leading edge electronics, mechanical packaging, active cooling, and complex software.

• By leading multi-site, multi-discipline, cross-functional teams in an innovative, collaborative environment to define and deliver committed prototypes, demonstrations, and / or product, all using our phase-gate or iterative processes.
• By successfully delivering to the agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality while managing execution, scope changes, risks, trade-offs, expectations, and communications.

• This role has the potential to grow into a more encompassing position as a Program Manager leading very complex, large-scale programs with significant business opportunity and impact.

Basic Qualifications & Skills

This is a hybrid role based out of our San Jose, CA.
•  Responsible for successfully delivering to the project goals and business results associated with them.
•  Lead complex projects negotiating trade-offs, determining, and committing to aggressive yet achievable scope, schedule, and budget to deliver winning business results by applying state-of-the-art project management tools and techniques.
•  Drive and monitor all day-to-day project work, making sure that problems are surfaced early and resolved quickly. 
•  Escalate and drive issues, that are out of the project team’s control, through the management chain for rapid resolution.
•  Lead project and phase gate approval reviews, providing clear and concise written and verbal communication to all levels of the project team and stakeholders including Project Sponsors, and tailoring style to a broad range of audiences and situations.
•  Run and monitor budgets for key engineering projects by tracking material requisitions, ensuring material is delivered and by generate reports on budget status.
• Depending upon the scope of the project, you may have to support the Engineering NPI process for new projects by creating and monitoring schedules and budgets, generating periodic reports on project status, progress, plans and to work with cross-functional team to ensure project meets goals.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.
• Must have experience managing complex technical projects with Electro-mechanical design and SW elements in a product development environment on aggressive TTM timelines.
• 10+ years of Technical Project Management and Product Development experience is required.
• Prior experience as hands-on engineer in some discipline of hardware, software, or mechanical engineering.
• Prior experience with project management on complex, lengthy projects.
• Lead cross-functional teams of 10 to 20 people, 12 months duration, cross-discipline engineering possibly located in multiple geographic locations.
• Self-motivated, accountable individual with strong commitment to meeting personal and team goals as well as professional development.
• Strong expertise in systematic approach to problem-solving.
• Exceptional competency to lead and drive complex decisions.
• Excellent organizational and written / verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Windows. Proficient in Microsoft Project:  Setup, track, and generate reports.
• Proficient in Excel / Word / PowerPoint:  Setup and track project information.  Provide information to cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills.  Must communicate with cross-functional teams to set goals, schedules, manage and resolve problems.

 

Education

• Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, is required (or equivalent experience)
