RELEASE MANAGER, SOFTWARE — UNIVERSAL ROBOTS

Function: Engineering

Location: Odense, DK — on-site at Universal Robots HQ

Are you ready to make a real impact on the world of robotics? At Teradyne Robotics, a division of Teradyne, we are revolutionizing industries through cutting-edge collaborative and autonomous mobile robotic technologies. As part of our team, you'll work with global leaders Universal Robots (UR) and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), driving innovation that enhances manufacturing, logistics and workplaces across the world.

Why join us?

Do you get your energy from turning a complex release into a calm, predictable one? Do engineers seek you out because you have the overview, and managers trust your call on whether something is ready to ship? Then you might be our next Release Manager.

Every UR cobot in the field runs a full software stack: firmware in the joints and the safety system, the real-time controller, and PolyScope on top — the software our customers program their robots with. Each release is a coordinated effort across many development teams in our global R&D organization of 200+ engineers, and across the hardware development teams whose products that software runs on.

We are looking for an experienced professional to own how that stack comes together and reaches our customers. You will be the person who knows what is in a release, what is at risk, and whether it is ready to ship — and who brings clarity to a complex, fast-moving software organization.

You will lead releases through structure, credibility and influence, working with engineering managers, tech leads, QA, hardware development, production, product management and customer support. Your work will directly shape how predictably and how well Universal Robots delivers software to tens of thousands of robots worldwide.

Key responsibilities

As our Release Manager, you will:

  • Drive the release plan and PI execution. Maintain the release calendar and track scope for UR robot software, from planning through general availability and patch releases. We plan our work in Program Increments (PIs), and throughout each PI you create clarity on how teams are tracking towards their committed software goals.

  • Coordinate across the stack. Align agile development teams, test and validation, and hardware development on content, dependencies and timelines — firmware, controller and application software move together. Spot risks early, escalate with facts, and help teams make trade-offs between scope, quality and date.

  • Decide when a release is ready. Run release reviews and go/no-go decisions, and make sure every release is complete before it ships — all release artifacts and documentation in place, quality criteria met, and mandatory compliance requirements fulfilled.

  • Bring software into production. Coordinate hands-on with our production site to get each release deployed onto robots on the production line, so new software reaches customers on the robots they receive.

  • Lead configuration management. Set and drive the practices for versioning, branching and tagging, and establish release baselines and traceability of what went into each release and why.

  • Improve how we ship. Continuously improve the release process and metrics, and build the tooling and automation that make release flows faster and more reliable — automating what should not be manual.

  • Communicate. Keep stakeholders — from engineers to senior leadership — informed with concise release status, and make sure release notes and change information reach product management, support and customers.

What we are looking for

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in release management, software project management or configuration management

  • Experience working with agile development teams within a project organization

  • A solid grounding in software engineering, with working knowledge of Git and of a modern software stack such as C++, Python or Rust — enough to understand a build, read a change log and hold credible technical conversations with engineers

  • A structured, methodical way of working, and a real appetite for bringing overview and clarity to complex organizations

  • Strong personal drive, leadership and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to lead without formal authority

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, and the ability to work on-site at our headquarters in Odense, Denmark.

Preferred

  • Experience from robotics, embedded systems or other products where software and hardware are released together

  • Familiarity with scaled agile planning, such as PI planning in SAFe or similar frameworks

  • Hands-on experience building tooling and automation to optimize release flows, e.g. scripting in Python and working with CI/CD systems and release tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Jira or similar)

  • Experience releasing software in a regulated or safety-related context

  • A degree in software engineering, computer science, engineering or a related field

Don't tick every box? If the role excites you and you recognize yourself in most of the above, we would still like to hear from you.

What we offer

At Universal Robots we set a high bar, and in return we offer an exciting career in a fast-growing, technology-driven company where you work alongside skilled and talented colleagues from around the world.

  • A central role with high visibility across R&D and the wider business, where you shape how the world's leading cobot company ships software — with the trust to make informed decisions

  • A manager with continuous focus on team spirit, employee development and skill building

  • Flexible working hours to support balance in your daily life

  • Health insurance and additional benefits.

Diversity and inclusion

We believe diverse teams build better products. Our colleagues in Odense come from many countries and backgrounds, and we value differences in culture, competence and experience. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability or any other background, and we make hiring decisions based on qualifications, skills and fit for the role.
