Cost Analyst Role and Responsibilities

As part of a global organization, the Cost Analyst is a key team member in assuring Cost Management processes stay on track and in converting data into information that managers can use for decision making.

For the Cost Management Processes the candidate shall:


  • Process Price Purchase Variance (PPV) and Excess Inventory (MOQ) requests submitted by Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) suppliers, perform the analysis of the requests to determine their legitimacy and confirm that requestors have exhausted all other possible courses of action. Cost Analyst will approve or reject and provide alternate course of action for requests within his/her approval level; requests above this limit will be routed to corresponding Commodity Managers.
  • Monitor open requests to assure all are resolved within established target times and is the ultimate responsible for the process performance.
  • Perform initial screening of PPV data claims submitted by EMS Providers to confirm approvals granted and highlight gaps/discrepancies to Cost Management Analysts to resolve with EMS. Purpose is to reimburse Teradyne when a Purchase Price is less than standard and to reimburse the EMS Provider when a purchase Price is greater than standard.
  • Update and maintain Price Book information per instructions and data provided by Commodity Managers.
  • Updates and maintains Databases that record the ownership of individual Teradyne part numbers by Commodity Manager. 
  • On demand data analysis as required by the Cost Management Team


Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education Required


  • Undergraduate degree or advanced student in Business Administration, Finance, Systems Engineering or related fields.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Data Analysis, Procurement or equivalent role.
  • Fluent English (verbal and written).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with ERP systems.
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly.
  • Ability to collect data from multiple sources, synthesizes and analyzes the data, and provides conclusions and/or recommendations.
  • Ability to influence and express opinions with logic and data.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Willingness to adjust working hours to meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to respond quickly
