Organization & Role

Teradyne is the world leader in providing ATE test solutions to the Semiconductor industry, and still going strong after 60 years. Our DC/Power instrumentation is used by leading Semiconductor companies around the globe to characterize and production test their devices at the wafer and packaged level before they are integrated into the ubiquitous electronic products and electronic subsystems we rely on in our everyday lives like mobile devices, automobiles, and laptop computers. Our DC/Power instruments are focused on powering these devices (DUTs), as well as performing accurate low frequency and high power parametric measurements. 
We are enhancing the design capabilities in Costa Rica and we are looking for an experienced and creative individual to join our HW Design Team, recently formed, so the candidate will have the chance to join during the beginning period and contribute with building a strong technical Team beyond just designing products. 


Semi Test Instrument design projects are very complex and require a lot of different skills and expertise to be successful. One of the key roles on the project is the Technical Project Lead. This person works with the Program Manager to plan, execute, drive, and communicate status on the project. Both work together to make changes to correct problems. To be successful in this role as the Technical Lead, the individual is to be able to:  
•    Lead a multi-function engineering team to deliver new DC/Power ATE Instrument offerings for our ETS platform, on schedule, on budget, and with required capability
•    Functions required to interface with: Hardware, Software, Hardware and Software QA, Mechanical, Signal Delivery, Thermal, DFM/DFT, NPI/Operations, Program Management, Systems Engineering, Product Marketing, Logic Design, ASIC Design, SLM, System Engineering, PCB layout 
•    Work with development teams to establish plans that enable the project to meet its overall objectives
•    Resolve conflicts that involve technical details of the project
•    Manage the triple constraint of Budget/Schedule/Features
•    Be the Technical face of the project. That means being willing/capable of answering these types of questions ALL the time.:
o    What does this Instrument do. What are the key requirements. 
o    Why will we be successful
o    Why are there problems that we didn’t foresee
o    How will we solve those problems
o    Are there process improvements that could prevent those problems in the future
o    What are the key technical risks to the project 
o    Are there features/capabilities could we trade-off to lower dev cost or shorten schedules
o    What resources do you need to stay on track
o    Are there any specs that we are likely to fall short on
o    Is there anything that can be done to improve those specs 
o    Is this an architecture problem or an implementation problem
o    Is this a HW, SW, or an FPGA bug
o    How will the lead customer be impacted by this new problem everyone keeps talking about
o    What is our prototyping plan and is it sufficient
o    Why features/capabilities are driving development cost
•    Drive and facilitate a high level of integration amongst the development teams 
•    Identify technical risk, as well as mitigations and contingency plans
•    Communicate project progress/status to the overall project team, and to senior management

Basic Qualifications & Skills

The Technical Lead individual in Costa Rica will enhance Teradyne’s capability to take on instrument projects independently of the design site to: develop and test / verify complex systems products involving electrical hardware, software, and mechanical hardware; in conjunction with Engineers from other Design sites.  Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications:

•    15-20 years experience working in a HW development role
•    Driving Technical Aspects of Development Projects 
•    10 years experience driving HW development projects
•    Strong Project Management Skills
o    Ability to synthesize scattered details into clear meaningful messages 
o    Ability to lead teams through change
o    Ability to deal with and resolve conflict
•    Track record of driving HW development projects from concept to completion
•    Strong Communication Skills
o    Provide concise summaries for executive management and other teams
o    Understand and communicate technical details with engineers you lead
o    Ability to distill technical updates into easily communicated summaries
•    BSc or equivalent. MSc is a plus
•    Experience interfacing with multiple engineering disciplines 
•    Experience Managing directs a plus but not required
