Teradyne's Storage Test group is comprised of two major product lines both serving fast growing markets:  Hard disk drive and solid state drive (HDD and SSD) testers, and semiconductor SoC System Level Test (SLT) testers.  The HDD/SSD testers serve the client and enterprise storage markets, while the SLT testers serve IC manufacturers of system-on-chip (SoC) devices.  These tester families both rely heavily on engineering expertise in factory automation, robotics, precision device handling, electrical, thermal, software and of course  test.  Teradyne's Storage Test Business Unit has seen outstanding growth recently and is always on the lookout for top engineering talent.  

Organization & Role



The Storage Test Group (STG) of Teradyne is seeking an Engineering Program Manager. The position is at the company’s corporate headquarters located in North Reading, MA. 


We’re looking for a veteran Program Manager with a design engineering background that can drive a program, and its entire cross functional team, from its initial conception all the way to its production and deployment. The candidate must be able to energize, organize, and direct all team players. They must be comfortable with a fast pace environment and be capable of quickly adapting to the changes of a rapidly growing business. 


The Program Manager will be responsible for the cost, schedule, and organizing the development of major subsystems, as well as providing succinct program status to steering committee members. 



  • Organize and compile material for review by core teams and steering committees. 
  • Run and organize major subsystem development activities: requirements, concept, prototype, test, production.
  • Coordinate cross functional engineering, marketing, sales and operation’s disciplines to align the work of employees assigned to the program and related subprojects. Including holding and running cross-functional design review meetings, core team meetings, and project meetings.
  • Prepare, monitor, and frequently update engineering program plans, task plans, schedules, risk tables, and action items.
  • Monitor and control total program recurring and non-recurring costs thru complete transfer of the program to manufacturing and full scale production.
  • Synthesize data and present program overview status, including required escalations, to stakeholders.
  • Identify critical paths and recommend mitigation paths for risks.

Basic Qualifications & Skills


  • Experience leading multiple engineering programs with cross functional contributors (HW, SW, MECH, Automation, Operations, Field Service).
  • Ability to highlight program risks to senior management with mitigation plans to close risks during the project development.
  • Expertise in making product design decisions based on feedback from the project team.
  • Ability to create and track detailed project plans that comprehend the concept generation, detailed design, design verification, customer qualification, and transfer to high volume manufacturing. 
  • Experience in working with an operations organization to plan projects to deliver customer beta test units and follow-on production shipments.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in engineering product manufacturing based companies.
  • Willingness to travel, this would be less than 20%.




  • Engineering degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (BSEE or BSME with MS or MBA highly desired), with experience in that skill to a senior or principle level.
