Teradyne is currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support NPI and other organizations in our North Reading Facility. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with 2-3 years of experience as Manufacturing or Process Engineer, who loves to be in a dynamic environment, spends most of the time in a lab either building New Products or facilitating thermal analysis verification.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with New Products Introduction (NPI) Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering group to introduce new product assembly processes into the Pilot line for required short run pre-production demand, provide feedback on issues found in Pilot Line to the appropriate group.
  • Perform mechanical builds for NPI products (module & high-level assembly builds) to enable Pilot Line testing.
  • Provide feedback NPI Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering for issues related during builds (work instructions discrepancy, BOM or parts related issues)
  • Drive for root cause/corrective action for electromechanical assembly issues
  • Participate in Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) for electromechanical assemblies


Secondary Responsibilities

  • Support R&D executing thermal profiles for PCBA reliability testing and setup & design of experiments (DOE)
  • Setup and perform environmental testing – high temperature operation, temperature cycling, temperature humidity bias, vibration testing, highly accelerated life testing (HALT), highly accelerated stress screening (HASS)


Other Responsibilities

  • Program and Operate BGA rework Machine (Air-Vac Onyx 29 or similar), to place components according to IPC-610
  • Perform radiography (X-ray) and laminography machine for failure analysis purposes
  • Provide equipment maintenance and repair support as required.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience following manufacturing documentation and procedures
  • Able to read and understand engineering bill of materials, schematics, and drawings
  • Stencil design, Fixture design and DFM knowledge
  • Tool proficiency, including multimeters, environmental chambers, calipers, electronic microscopes, data acquisition systems, accelerometers, thermocouples etc.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis
  • Clear understanding of environmental testing – including but not limited to thermal, humidity, shock, vibration testing.


Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with HALT, HASS, FMEA, Accelerated Life Testing.
  • Experience in handling SMT components, boards, and tools for assembly
  • Familiarity with JEDEC, AEC, IPC, Mil and other standards pertaining to environmental testing
  • IPC-A-610 knowledge
  • Experienced with SMT manufacturing process including Backend Processes required for board assembly.
