Organization & Role

This engineering position ensures compliance with U.S. and international export and import control laws, including the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”), International Traffic in Arms Regulation (“ITAR) concerning the movement of goods, software, technology and services across borders. The position acts as a liaison among several internal groups across Teradyne businesses, and may interface with government licensing offices, such as the Bureau of Industry and Security (“BIS”), to ensure proper adherence to trade management and trade control laws and regulations. 

Responsibilities

  • Using your engineering knowledge, skills and abilities, a Product Classification Engineer will review part specification sheets, related product documentation, how a product is used, Customs Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations, the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations as well as foreign Customs and export control authorities to determine Harmonized System customs classification code (HS codes) and Export Control Classification Numbers (“ECCN”) and or local country export classifications of items.
  • Document how products have been classified, both for customs purposes (Harmonized System customs classification code (HS codes) and export control purposes (Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR) for the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
  • Lead projects to develop and deploy tools to be used by Teradyne companies and possibly customers globally to access classification information.   
  • Lead projects or initiatives to improve the accuracy and efficiency of product classification and recordkeeping, resolve gaps or problems identified and build organizational capability while enforcing the product classification processes.  
  •  Interface with customers and suppliers to provide export classification information.
  • As the global subject matter expert, deliver training to others performing classification throughout the company.
  • Audit and monitor classifications being assigned to ensure proper classifications are assigned and recordkeeping requirements are met. 

 

For positions requiring access to technical data, Teradyne, Inc. may need to obtain export  licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.  As such, applicants for this position – except US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, and protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) – may need to go through an export licensing review process.

Basic Qualifications & Skills

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering)
  • 3-5 year experience
  • Self motivated, self driven, interpersonal skills
  • Travel Required: No
  • Location: North Reading, MA
  • Position type: Hybrid (Preferably to go to the building 1 or 2 days a week) However company is opened to be flexible
