Opportunity Overview

The Test Engineer plays a critical role in supporting Teradyne’s contract manufacturing partners located in Penang, Malaysia. This position is responsible for ensuring product quality, improving manufacturing efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing test operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, external suppliers, and contract manufacturers to improve test performance, product reliability, and production yields while providing regular onsite technical support.

  • Provide onsite test engineering support at contract manufacturing facilities in Penang.
  • Debug PCBAs and perform root cause analysis on test failures, yield losses, and product design issues, driving both immediate corrective actions and long-term continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with Design, Hardware, Process, Quality, and Supply Chain Engineering teams to resolve product, component, manufacturing, and test-related challenges.
  • Partner with contract manufacturers to identify process deviations, implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and improve production yields.
  • Monitor and analyze manufacturing metrics, including yield trends, test performance, failure rates, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and recurring failure patterns to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) transfers, component qualification activities, and software qualification processes at manufacturing sites.
  • Train and mentor contract manufacturing personnel on debugging methodologies, test procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.
  • Assess and qualify new components and suppliers to ensure testability, reliability, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Lead technical discussions and coordinate closely with engineering teams in the United States and Costa Rica to resolve complex technical issues and drive continuous improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and update test procedures, debugging guides, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and deviation documentation associated with design and process changes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, engineering, supply chain, or NPI program management.
  • Strong experience in PCBA debugging, manufacturing test development, and yield improvement.
  • Proven ability to perform failure analysis and drive corrective actions in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing test systems, production troubleshooting, and product qualification activities.
  • Familiarity with NPI transfers, component qualification, and test process validation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to root cause investigation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing metrics and implement data-driven process improvements.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills, including development of test procedures, ECNs, qualification reports, and troubleshooting documentation.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting high-volume electronic manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of reliability testing, failure analysis methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools, manufacturing quality systems, and CAPA processes.
  • Familiarity with supplier qualification, production transfers, and manufacturing readiness assessments.
  • Experience collaborating with geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Strong foundation in digital and analog circuit design principles, with the ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex hardware issues.
  • Hands-on experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE), board-level test platforms, and ICT (In-Circuit Test) and functional test systems.
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, logic analyzers, and related diagnostic tools.
  • Experience in test development, including creating, validating, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing test solutions for electronic products.
