PhD-Candidate in Predictive Maintenance for Cobot Applications using AI

 

Universal Robots and University of Southern Denmark invite applications for a fully funded three-year Industrial PhD position in predictive maintenance for cobot applications using AI. The goal of the project is to identify and avoid unstable operation of cobots due to error-prone programming or variances in the application. You will study software technologies to deploy the AI solution in a cobot-setting, balancing challenges related to data access, accuracy, and application insights. The project will prototype solutions for UR cobots.

 

The position includes an enrollment as an Industrial PhD Student at SDU and connect with a larger initiative within Edge-based AI under the DIREC (Digital Research Center Denmark), in collaboration with specialists and industrial researchers.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conducting research in the intersection between academia and the industry. Diving deep into artificial intelligence and software technologies while keeping a clear focus on their applicability to cobot applications.
  • Publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact. Supplying to the Patent portfolio of Universal Robots with your inventions and use it as a part of your publishing strategy.
  • Being part of the DIREC initiative working with Edge-based AI co-working with other specialists and researchers.

 

Qualifications, Experience, Skills, & Education Required:

  • Genuine interest in understanding collaborative robots and real-world manufacturing and to use your AI skills to seek them.
  • MSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics or equivalent
  • Grades to get enrolled at the PhD School of SDU at the Technical Faculty
  • Comfortable learning new programming languages if needed
  • Experience (or a genuine interest) in doing research
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and within a team
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written
